  1. Just lovely. Your quote reminds me of something I heard while watching a documentary on Rumi a few weeks ago. It goes something like this: The reed that is pulled from the mud bed and made into a flute mourns in its language because it has been separated from its source. Humans are like that too, having been pulled from the “mud bed of God.” Language, therefore, is proof limitation & separation from the Source. Interesting, huh? 🌞

I think I would qualify that as apparent separation from the Source. And with regards to the ineffability of the latter, I offer you this Rumi quote in return:

Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation.

Thanks so much for stopping by, L@Β΅OTM. Much appreciated.

  2. I feel drawn deep into the underworld now,. The colors and those fine, curving white lines are beautiful. The Wittgenstein quote makes sense to me in terms of communicating with other people, but not within oneself. There’s so much beyond language that we can sense. It may be inchoate but it goes beyond limits.

    1. Glad you appreciate the chthonic vibe – perhaps it is a metaphor for sinking down and releasing into pre-linguistic knowledge…

      1. Chthonic! I don’t see THAT word very often! Years ago in NY (well north of NYC), I came across a coffee shop called the Chthonic Cafe. I remember sitting there with my coffee, photographing the sign in the window. πŸ™‚ Not at all pre-linguistic, but we do delight in words, don’t we? We need both worlds…

      2. Haha! Truth be told, I very seldom have occasion to use that word, so I’m very glad you appreciated it.

Cool name for a cafe, BTW, – was it located in a basement?

Delight in words? Heck yeah, we do, don’t we! And we sure do need both worlds – where would “we” be without this verbal/conceptual/dualistic differentiated and diverse world of name and form? How else could we strive to see the signature of the artist in every brushstroke of reality? [Rhetorical questions, btw]

    1. Glad you like it, Gunta! You challenge is now to drop “chthonic” into casual conversation πŸ˜‰πŸ™ƒ
